Pooling a vehicle cost dear to 13 Punjab school teachers and a driver when it collided with a truck on Friday morning, official sources told North India Times.
The accident took place near Fazilka when the driver of the jeep, in which 15 people were travelling,was overtaking a vehicle amid dense fog.
“The accident took place near Chandmari village located at a distance of 5 kms from Fazilka.There were a total 15 people in the vehicle including the driver.Initial reports said the driver, in an effort to overtake a vehicle,hit the vehicle with a truck coming from the opposite side.The vehicle was hired by the local school teachers who served in different government schools. While five teachers died on the spot eight succumbed to their injuries in the civil hospital,”a police official said.
The victims belonged to the bordering towns of Fazilka and Abhohar.Only one teacher survived the accident who has been admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot in a critical condition.
