40 Lac illegal citizens in Assam : hearing of claims begins

Doubtful voters can make it to National Register of Citizens only if names cleared by foreigners’ tribunal

The names of 40 lakh people were not included in the NRC draft list published in July last year in the state.
The Office of the State NRC Coordinator has instructed district administrations to include the names of Doubtful voters in the NRC list if their names are cleared by foreigners’ tribunal.

The hearing of claims of 40 lac doubtful voters in Assam is on .National Register of Citizens (NRC) is being implemented in Assam under the supervision of the Supreme Court to detect illegal citizens.

The names of 40 lakh people were not included in the NRC draft list published in July last year in the state.
The Office of the State NRC Coordinator has instructed district administrations to include the names of Doubtful voters in the NRC list if their names are cleared by foreigners’ tribunal.

Doubtful voters are barred from contesting elections and exercising their voting rights in the state.

Official sources said that Doubtful voters have to submit the verdict of the foreigner tribunal to get their names included in the NRC list.
