Replying to a question whether the government will continue with the release of militants and political prisoners, State Home Secretary Suresh Kumar said, there would be no more releases.
The statement came amid continuing furore over the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam by the State government.
Defending the decision to release Masarat, he said, there is a limit to detaining someone under Public Safety Act. He said, no Public Safety Act could be re-framed against Masarat, that is why, he was released. The issue has been rocking Parliament with the Opposition expressing concern over it.
Meanwhile, BJP President Amit Shah summoned State Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh to Delhi this evening, who apprised him of the developments over Masarat’s release.
Nirmal Singh was accompanied by senior party leaders from the State. When asked what transpired in the meeting, Nirmal Singh said that various issues pertaining to the state were discussed. Asked if BJP is withdrawing support to the state government, he replied that it is a stable government.
