The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday won Chandigarh civic polls with a clear majority. It is after a gap of two decades that the party managed to win 20 seats and registered a landslide victory.
Congress which managed to win elections in just four municipal wards ,failed to influence the voters by raising the impact of noteban on the common man.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) even failed to retain its two seats . The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) could win just one seat.
After winning Chandigarh civic polls ,BJP is hoping to replicate victories in the forthcoming assembly elections in four states including Punjab and Uttar Pradesh .
BJP and its alliance partner Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is facing anti-incumbency in Punjab.Chandigarh civic poll results may help the party in minimising the negativity but BJP will contest elections on a few seats in Punjab.
BJP National President Amit Shah has said that the voters have conveyed their mood to the opposition parties besides pointing towards the direction of the politics.
