Dharamshala trekker found dead at Umasi Pass

A trekker who was stranded in a mountain pass in Jammu and Kashmir owing to injuries for the past five days, was found dead by the Indian Air Force rescue team yesterday.

An official said, the team could not manage to airlift the body of 25 year old trekker Arun Sharma, of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district as it was frozen.

A team of trekkers has been dispatched to physically lift the body. The Indian Air Force had deployed two choppers to rescue Sharma, who was believed to be stationed in a tent with sufficient supply of ration at the base of Umasi Pass, located at an altitude of 17,400 feet above sea level. Sharma had left for Umasi Pass on August 9th from Killar in Chamba district.
