Himachal to introduce Palki ambulance service
Realising the travails people of far flung and difficult areas face, the Himakchal Pradesh government has now decided to introduce the palki (palanquin) ambulance service in many parts of the state where the 108 ambulance service is not able to reach.
Sources told North India Times that the palki ambulance service will carry people to the road from where the 108 ambulance service will take them to the nearest hospital. The state government initially plans to buy 200 palanquins which will be distributed to all the districts and will act as a feeder service to the 108 ambulances.
The state government has not disclosed the structure and style of the palanquin ambulances and how they will be different from those being used during the marriage celebrations. The palanquins will also be fitted with the medical kits and give employment to the four people in every panchayat.
Besides the palanquins , the state government will also introduce boat ambulance service in the areas located on the river banks.
The palki ambulance service will work under the supervision of the panchayats.
