huma-akshay-in-jolly-llbJolly LLB 2 is a perfect package, it makes you laugh, think and stand in support of the judiciary system that in spite of its flaws, delays and criticism, we still have a faith that it will follow the truth.

Writer-director Subhash Kapoor opens the second instalment of the franchise where he steals the innocence of Jolly seen in the first part to a smart Jolly Jagdishwar Mishra (Akshay Kumar) who broadcasts answers to school students during their examination in Kanpur and assist a top vakil (lawyer) who happens to be a nawab of Lucknow.

Forwarding the deft comic interplay between two lawyers and the sarcasm in the judiciary system that was introduced in the first part, Jolly LLB 2 does not disappoint and is packed with enough material to deliver a winner, that stays strong in its premise and undoubtedly celebrates Akshay Kumar’s twin persona as the poster boy of patriotism on Indian screen and his WELCOME and HERA PHERI type controlled buffoonery.

Jolly, the lawyer knows loopholes in Judiciary

Jolly (Akshay Kumar) is a lawyer and is aware of loopholes in the judiciary system but he is exploited by the nawab of Lucknow – a top city lawyer where Jolly works as his assistant and fries kebabas at his boss’ home. Jolly earns extra by solving petty cases and wants to own a chamber in Lucknow Court.

An urgent need of Rs. 2 Lakh to get his chamber forces Jolly to cheat Hina (Sayani Gupta) whose husband Iqbal (Manav Kaul) is a victim of mistaken identity. How the incident changes Jolly and stirs his soul to take a fight against the system forms the crux of this engrossing film where we get brilliant actors like Annu Kapoor as the defense lawyer giving a unique performance. Saurabh Shukla as the judge coming with a winner one again and Kumud Mishra as the top cop grabbing attention with his villainy.

Without getting accused of turning spoilers, we continue by saying that Subhash Kapoor’s characterization is spot on and his narrative is involving. First half is terrific. Second half poses some problems with its over-the-top dramatization and forced attempt to make our eyes moist and it’s a bit lengthy too but it ends up in successfully delivering the message.

Akshay Kumar adds his own charm to Jolly and delivers a power-packed performance that gives the audience especially his fans chance to whistle and clap in regular intervals. Subhash Kapoor has smartly designed his character and the part where he cooks for his wife will be cheered by ladies.

Huma Qureshi’s dream to be the Gucci queen

Meet the new Jolly – Jagdishwar Mishra (Akshay Kumar) and his wife Pushpa Panday (Huma) in helmer Subhash Kapoor’s attempt to make hay while the problems in our court proceedings shines in this 2nd franchise of the lovably funny lawyer series JOLLY LLB that starred Arshad Warsi in the first instalment.

Huma Qureshi adds her charm though she had nothing much to do. Sayani Gupta, Inaamulhaq and Manav provide excellent support.
She snoozes over the borrowed whiskey and dreams to be the Gucci queen of Kanpur.

Changing gear from a complete social satire in its previous part to an aimed commercial box-office fire and comes up with a solid message at the right time and uses Bollywood potboilers predictably and Akshay Kumar’s ability as a superstar to change the game inside and outside the screen.

If you ignore the above make believe adjustments plus there are couple more, then Subhash Kapoor’s attempts to put forward the message comes through where we find out that the writer director team has done some research.

The last one dealt with the loopholes in hit-n-run cases while this one spreads its reach and touches the serious mistaken identity debate of extremist in an entertaining manner.
