Border guards open fire on suspected intruders from Pakistan

January 4th, 2010

Jammu:Indian border guards opened fire at a group of suspected infiltrators along the border with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramgarh sector around midnight Sunday, officials said.

According to Border Security Force (BSF) sources, troopers deployed at Narania area of Ramgarh sector, about 45 km southwest of Jammu, detected "heavy movement" along the border through search lights. The entire area was engulfed by thick fog around midnight. Suspecting an intrusion bid, the BSF troopers fired about 40 rounds.

The troopers also launched search operations in the area. This is the first intrusion bid in 2010.

the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan has experienced heavy snowfall, leading to infiltration rising along the international border south of the LoC.
