October 30th, 2009

New Delhi : The Delhi Metro Friday conducted successful trial runs of its service between Yamuna Bank station in the national capital and 10 newly-built stations across the river and Noida township in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Delhi Metro officials, the trials began around 2.30 p.m. and were conducted on the entire 13.1-km stretch. This section will be integrated with the existing 34.3 km Yamuna Bank-Dwarka Sector-9 section.

"This stretch would be open for public in December," Delhi Metro spokesman Anuj Dayal said.

About 53,000 new passengers are expected to join the Metro commuters after the opening of the Noida corridor.

The newly built corridor consists of 10 stations - Akshardham, Mayur Vihar-I and Mayur Vihar Extension in Delhi - and New Ashok Nagar, Noida sector 15, sector 16, sector 18, Botanical Garden, Golf Course and Noida City Centre.

Parking facility is available at the Akshardham, Botanical Garden and Noida City Centre Metro stations.
