Three killed as bus falls into gorge in Himachal

February 5th, 2010

Mandi (Himachal Pradesh): At least three people were killed and 15 injured when a state-run bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge Friday, near this Himachal Pradesh district headquarters town.

Superintendent of Police S.M. Agnihotri told IANS that there were 18 people travelling in the Himachal Road Transport Corporation mini-bus when it fell into a 200-metre-deep gorge near Kalkhar village, some 18 km from here.

The bus was on way to this town from Kuther, he said.

"Fourteen of the injured have been admitted to Mandi's Zonal Hospital and one has been referred to Chandigarh's PGI," the police officer said.

Prima facie, he said, the accident occurred due to the negligence of the driver.
