Himachal hikes bus fares 30 percent

March 6th, 2010

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government Saturday announced a 30-percent hike in fares of state-run buses in view of the recent rise in fuel prices, an official said here. The revised fares will be effective from April 1.

"The cabinet last (Friday) evening decided to increase fares of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses by 30 percent," a government spokesperson said.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal had earlier hinted at a hike in bus fares in view of the rise in diesel prices.

The HRTC operates more than 1,900 buses within and outside the state.
