Revenue official kills deputy collector's driver; held

December 24th, 2009

Bhopal: A senior revenue official, who shot dead a deputy collector's driver after a minor dispute in Gwalior, has been arrested, police said Thursday.

The accused, A.K. Singh, 55, superintendent of land records in Gwalior, fired at the driver Sajjan Singh Wednesday when the latter objected to his misbehaviour with his domestic help.

"Singh was allegedly scolding the domestic help when Sajjan Singh (Deputy Collector R.P. Ahirwar's driver) intervened. This angered the officer so much that he took out his gun and fired at Sajjan Singh from point blank range. The bullet hit the driver's chest and he died on the spot," the police said.

"The official has been arrested and the gun has been seized," Gwalior Additional Police Superintendant Manohar Singh Verma told IANS.
