December 27th, 2009

Lucknow:Listed amongst Uttar Pradesh's "most wanted" outlaws and an alleged ISI agent, Pervez Tanda was gunned down in Nepal, a senior official said here Saturday.

Tanda's killing which occurred Friday was confirmed to the Indian authorities by the Nepal Police Saturday.

Carrying a reward of Rs.50,000, Tanda was wanted in 23 criminal cases, including murder, dacoity and loot in at least four districts of Uttar Pradesh - Bareilly, Maharajganj, Siddharth Nagar and Ambedkar Nagar.

He was also wanted by Uttar Pradesh's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) for his close nexus with the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal said: "Tanda was inducted as a member of notorious ISI agent Mirza Dilshad Beg's band, but later set up his own gang in Nepal."

He said: "Besides undertaking special tasks for the ISI, he was known to be dealing in stolen Indian cars."

A Pakistani national and ISI agent Jabbar, who was earlier this year arrested by Uttar Pradesh ATS had also mentioned Pervez Tanda as his Nepal conduit for getting entry into India.

"Nepal's Ropan district police chief C.L. Joshi confirmed to us today (Saturday) that a man gunned down in an inter-gang rivalry on the Taulihawan-Bhutwal highway in Ropan district was indeed Pervez Tanda, a resident of Hayatpur village in Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh," Lal said.
