Aero sports centre launched in Haryana

January 31st, 2010

Chandigarh: The country's first aero sports centre was Sunday launched at Bachhaud air strip near Narnaul town in Haryana.

Named after former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, himself a trained commercial pilot, the centre has been set up by the state government in collaboration with the Aero Club of India.

It is the country's first National Aero Sports Centre.

Inaugurating the centre in the presence of Aero Club of India president and MP Satish Sharma, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the centre would provide facility for those keen on flying and adventure.

Sharma said that youth would be imparted training in para-jumping, para-sailing, gliding, hot air ballooning and micro-light flying at the centre.

Haryana's civil aviation department runs three flying clubs at Karnal, Pinjore and Hisar. An ultra-modern multi-engine simulator costing Rs.1.25 crore is being installed to provide better training facility at Karnal.
