Alcoholic man forgets wife's last rites

June 26th, 2010

Raipur : In a bizarre incident, a 40-year-old man here took his wife's body to a cremation centre but forgot to perform the last rites as he was drunk.

The police got a call Thursday afternoon that a body of a middle-aged woman was lying unattended at a cremation centre in Rawabhata area and the man who had brought it was missing.

The body was rushed to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Medical College.

"Initially we thought someone had killed the 34-year-old woman. After two hours of search, we found the husband (Rakesh Vishwakarma) in a drunken state," police officer R.L. Yadav told IANS.

"The man was not in a position to recall what had happened to his wife. But the post-mortem report confirmed the cause of death as a stomach-related disease," Yadav said.
