Politicians in Crickt Associations :SC pulls up BCCI
The Supreme Court has pulled up BCCI for its reluctance to comply with the recommendations of the Justice RM Lodha panel including the one to keep Ministers away from cricket administration.
A bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur was responding to complaints by various State Cricket associations, which also echoed BCCI’s version that they were not asked for their views by the Lodha panel about the proposed recommendations, which now threaten their basic structure and functioning.
When senior advocate KK Venugopal, appearing for BCCI, raised objections to the committee’s recommendation for keeping politicians away, the bench observed that politicians wanted to hold such posts for power. The apex court also pulled up BCCI when it objected to the inclusion of a nominee of the CAG in the cricket’s administrative body.
The court took umbrage against the associations, which sought a fresh hearing before the Lodha panel. The court said, these bodies cannot be allowed to delay the implementation of the recommendations of the panel which was an expensive committee, and had grabbed international headlines.
