Himachal Pradesh chief minister on Friday announced that the state government will set up Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Dhaula Kuan area of Sirmaur district.IIM for the state was announced by the union government in the new budget.
“Our government is according top priority to strengthen the Educational Infrastructure in the State.We have decided to set up the IIM in Dhaula Kuan of Sirmour.The state government during its 1.5 year old tenure has opened 693 new schools besides upgrading and opening 14 degree colleges in various parts of the state,” Virbhadra Singh said after unfurling Tricolour in Nahan, Sirmaur on Friday.
The chief minister also announced setting up of an engineering college near Jeori in Shimla district .He also announced 10 percent dearness allowance to the state government employees which will be paid from January this year.
Virbhadra Singh said that the state government is committed for the welfare of the serving and ex-servicemen and the families of the martyrs and freedom fighters.
“Samman Rashi’ of the freedom fighters had been enhanced from Rs 7,500 to Rs 10000, besides enhancing the same for the wives and daughters of freedom fighters from Rs 3,500 to Rs 5000. The Government had also enhanced the annuity of gallantry awards winners from rupees three thousand to rupees five thousand,” Virbhadra Singh said.
The chief minister said that the state government has also enhanced the Social Security Pension of Widows, old aged and physically disabled from Rs 450 to Rs 550 per month, besides providing Social Security Pension of Rs 1000 to those above 80 years of age.
“The ambitious Rs 500 crore ‘Skill Development Allowance Scheme’ had been started in the State wherein an allowance of rupees one thousand for skill development was being provided to educated unemployed, besides a sum of rupees 1500 per month was being given to the physically disabled and a
separate provision had been made to relax the educational qualifications for different trades under the scheme,” Virbhadra Singh said.
Virbhadra Singh also honoured Vikas Thakur for winning Silver Medal in the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow and presented him a cheque of Rs 10 lacs.
