The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking relaxation in withdrawal limit of Rs 2.5 lacs to the families organising marriages.
The court said that the government as already provided relaxations on demonetisation issue.
The plea had said the cap of 2.5 lakh rupees for marriages should be relaxed as there were various customary donations which one provides during the wedding ceremony.
The Supreme Court is also hearing a batch of petitions against demonetisation. It is hearing the Centre’s plea seeking transfer of all petitions pending before various courts in the country to either the apex court or one high court. The apex court will hear the petitions on Friday.
The Reserve Bank of India had earlier allowed the parents and the couples getting married to withdraw
Rs 2.5 from their bank accounts to solemnise the marriages.
