10 killed in Uttarakhand jeep accident

UttarakhandIn Uttarakhand, 10 people were killed in a road accident when a Jeep carrying them, fell into a deep gorge in Puryodhi area of Chakrata in Dehradun district today. The accident took place at Puryodhi area, when the Jeep was on its way from Haiyo village to Vikasnagar. The deceased include two women and one child, while two others sustaining serious injuries have been admitted to vikasnagar hospital.

All dead bodies have been recovered. The cause of the accident is said to be the bad condition of the road and overloading of the vehicle. The Chief Minister Harish Rawat and Governor Aziz Quershi expressed deep grief over the accident.

Chief Minister has ordered a random checking of vehicles fitness and permit in the State. The district administration has also been directed to release an immediate relief of an ex gratia of Rs one lakh each to next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
