In Uttar Pradesh, eleven people are feared drowned in a tragic incident when a boat capsized in river Ganga in Raebareli today. PRO of state DGP said that eighteen persons boarded a boat in Purey Mallahi village under Saraini police station of Rae Bareli in the early hours when the boat sank in the river.
Seven persons swam to safety while eleven persons including several minors went missing. Three bodies of the children have been recovered while the divers are searching for remaining eight missing persons, he said.
This is the second major incident of boat overturn within a week in which precious lives have been lost in the state. Only two days ago, six people had drowned in river Chamabal in Agra in a similar incident.
Despite all claims and efforts police is unable to control the illegal plying of boats in the state where greedy boatmen ferry their boats with twice the capacity. Locals rue that they are forced to take the overcrowded boats as there is no other alternative.
