For Jodhpur-based Ashima Sharma life was all planned out till recently. After managing her dance academy and politics, little did Ashima Sharma know that her faith would land her in Bollywood playing the protagonist in her next MUMBAI CAN DANCE SAALAA a movie that shall mark the revival of dance bars and depict the story of Crorepati dance.
But then, one fine day, Ashima found herself making quite a meaty debut in the upcoming MUMBAI CAN DANCE SAALA. “It was a shock for me also. I had never thought of becoming an actress. While any girl would die for such an opportunity I was initially hesitant about taking up the role. It all happened so sudden that I am still getting used to giving interviews and being clicked,” says Ashima shyly. She runs a dancing academy in Jodhpur. And it was during a performance that Ashima first met film’s director Sachindra Sharma. He saw her dancing moves and offered the lead role in his film.
“It’s an interesting role and to do justice to the character I decided to do some research on bar dancers from Mumbai. I personally met some of the bar dancers, learnt a few dance moves from them and observed their body language. I also realized that theirs is a dark and mostly misunderstood world. They are women like us; with dreams and problems of their own. I am essentially a dancer and wasn’t very sure about my acting skills. So, I also enrolled for acting classes,” says Ashima, who says she now faces the camera confidently.
