Rejecting the rumours being spread on social media that Indian banks will be closed during the first week of September, the Ministry of Finance has clarified that the banks will open as usual.
The Ministry has said that banking activity will continue unimpeded in the first week of September. It said, banks will observe holidays only on Sunday, 2nd of September and second Saturday on 8th of September.
The Ministry said, 3rd September is not a pan India holiday and banks only in some States where a holiday is declared will remain closed.
ATMs in all States will be fully functional on those days and there will be no impact on online banking transactions. The Ministry said, banks have been advised to ensure that sufficient cash is available for dispensation from ATMs.
