Taking a strong note of the withdrawal of the security cover of cricketer-turned-politician, Navjot Singh Sidhu ,state BJP president Kamal Sharma has asked the Badals to immediately restore the security cover of the former MP.
Terming the development as ‘extremely unfortunate’ Kamal Sharma said that Punjab BJP do not endorse the decision taken by the government.
“There are so many political leaders & other personalities, who have been given so much security notwithstanding any such threat perception. Sidhu is not only a former Parliamentarian but an iconic personality and genuinely require security cover. The Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal should immediately intervene and issue orders for the reinstatement of the security to Sidhu,” Kamal Sharma said.
Sidhu had launched no holds barred attack against the Badals and Akali Dal while campaigning for BJP in Haryana. He had called badals as ‘backstabbers‘ and ‘looters‘.
Speaking against Badals costed dear to cricketer-turned-politician, Navjot Singh Sidhu as the Punjab government on Tuesday withdrew his security cover.Sidhu was given ‘Y’ series security. Punjab government has yet to confirm the withdrawl.
The police department had provided three policemen to provide security to Sidhu who were asked to join duties in police headquarters.
Confirming the withdrawal of security cover Sidhu said that Punjab government is indulging in petty politics and said he will continue to raise voice against the injustice and fight for the truth.
“MY security cover has been withdrawn.They ( Badals) are indulging in petty politics but I will not give up my fight for the truth. I have no objections to the government decision,” Sidhu said over phone.
Sources close to the Punjab government said that the the police department has asked 400 policmen to report to the headquarters. They were assigned security jobs of various VIPs like Sidhu.
Sources said Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal , who also holds the home department, had asked the DGP Police to provide security cover to Sidhu whenever he visits the state.
