Afghanistan’s third largest city, Herat now has a direct air connectivity with New Delhi.
The flight was inaugurated by Second Vice President of Afghanistan Sarwar Danesh and Consul General of India in Herat Kumar Gaurav and Governor Asif Rahimi in Herat on Monday.
The Consulate General of India in Herat tweeted that it will herald a new chapter in people-to-people contact between the two countries.
Herat is the third-largest city of Afghanistan. It has a population of more than 40 lacs and serves as the capital of Herat Province, situated in the fertile valley of the Hari River.
It is linked with Kandahar and Mazar-e-Sharif via Highway 1 or the ring road. It is further linked to the city of Mashhad in neighboring Iran
