Chandigarh: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti Sunday said that voters in the country should not elect leaders who just read speeches written by others.

“National leaders who deliver speeches written by party state bodies are not worth of being believed in or being elected to power. What kind of development can we expect from such leaders,” she asked while speaking to media persons here, apparently referring to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Expressing surprise over recent statements of Sonia Gandhi and the prime minister that Punjab had lagged behind in development under the Akali Dal-BJP government in the state, Uma Bharti said that “neither of them had any blueprint for development in state”.

Seeking support for the ruling alliance in the Jan 30 assembly poll in Punjab, she said that the mood of the voters in the state was to change the earlier trend of not repeating any party’s government.

“The Akali Dal-BJP) government will win the election comfortably. The voters will reverse the trend this time. The UPA (United Progressive Alliance) will be wiped out of all the states in the country,” she said.
