Himachal not to welcome red beacons

Acting tough on the misuse of red beacon (red light) Himachal Pradesh government has issued fresh guidelines to check misuse .

The state government has banned the use of red beacons on outside vehicles entering Himachal.The people from neighbouring states indulge in all sort of prohibited activities and openly flout the traffic rules by putting red lights on their vehicles. In most of the cases the red beacons are used by the people who are not even entitled for this status. At times the relatives of ministers and bureaucrats have been found using red lights.

The state government has also limited the use of red lights in the districts. The deputy commissioners and public representatives will not be able to use red lights outside their jurisdiction.

The worst hit are the tourist places like Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala which receive lacs of tourists every year. People misusing the red lights add to traffic jams in these areas where the roads are narrow and cannot bear heavy traffic.
