Infant deaths: Badal orders probe

5 newborns die in a day at Ludhiana hospital in Ludhiana.Punjab chief minister, Parkash Singh Badal on Monday said that he has ordered a probe into the infant deaths reported in a Ludhiana hospital.

Speaking to media persons in Amritsar, Badal said action will be taken against the negligent staff if found guilty.

“I had asked the officers to ascertain the causes and circumstances which led to this incident and submit the inquiry report. If laxity was found on the part of any public servant in dealing with this incident then he or she would not be spared and brought to book as per the law of the land,” Badal said while condoling the infant deaths.

Meanwhile, the probe panel, headed by Principal Secretary (Health) Vikas Garg on Monday recorded the statements of senior medical officers of the staff. The state government has already suspended Dr Alka Mittal,head of gynecology department, for the dereliction of duty .

Four new born babies died under mysterious conditions in Ludhiana civil Hospital on Sunday.The incident took place three days after the mother-child wing of the hospital was inaugurated .The affected families alleged that the deliveries were done by the class four staff as the gynecologists were absent from duty.
