Modi, Xi Jinping ink ‘Sister Province’ relations MoU

Narendra-Modi-welcoming-theThe President of the People’s Republic of ChinaXi Jinping and the First Lady Ms. Peng Liyuan arrived in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Wednesday. They were received at the Hyatt Hotel in Ahmedabad by the Prime Minister,  Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister shared the rich Buddhist heritage of Gujarat with the Chinese President and the First Lady through an exhibition set up at Hyatt Hotel. The PM and the Chinese President then had a one-on-one interaction ahead of the signing of MoUs.

Three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between the two countries in the presence of the Chinese President and the Indian Prime Minister:

MoU establishing ‘Sister Province’ relations between Guangdong, China and Gujarat, India which covers cooperation in economy and trade, environmental protection, public policy education, health, science and technology, tourism and culture.

MoU between the cities of Guangzhou, China and Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India for closer cooperation between the local authorities of the two cities, which will facilitate engagements in the fields of economy and trade, environment protection, public policy, education, health, science and technology, tourism and culture. Knowledge sharing will be done through delegation visits, institutional meetings and sharing of experiences in areas of mutual interest.

MoU between Industrial Extension Bureau (iNDEXTb), the nodal agency of Government of Gujarat for investment promotion, and China Development Bank, under which iNDEXTb will assist Chinese investors in obtaining required clearances and creating infrastructure facilities in the industrial parks.

Modi,Chinese President visit Sabarmati Ashram.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, today visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. President Jinping was dressed in an off-white Khadi jacket, which had been presented to him earlier today by the Prime Minister. The two leaders spent a few minutes at Hriday Kunj in the Ashram, where President Jinping operated the charkha (spinning wheel)

Chinese President and First Lady visit Sabarmati Riverfront, accompanied by the PM

The Chinese President and the First Lady later visited the Sabarmati Riverfront at Ahmedabad, accompanied by the Prime Minister. They witnessed glimpses of Gujarati culture. The two leaders sat on a jhoola (swing) for a few moments. The President and the First Lady also sat on a traditional cot, before joining the Prime Minister for a private dinner on the riverfront.
