Modi,Swaraj to reach Kathmandu today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his delegation including  the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh will Kathmandu this afternoon to attend the 18th South Asian Association of Regional Countries, SAARC, Summit on 26th and 27th of this month.

The Summit will focus on enhancement of connectivity and people to people contacts. During the two-day Summit, all the heads of the Government will make their policy statements. Agreements on transport, energy and electricity sector are also expected to be signed. Mr Modi will lay out his vision of what he sees as regional cooperation in South Asia and India’s approach to harnessing the development potential of the region as a whole.

The visit which is essentially for the SAARC Summit will also have a substantive bilateral component with Nepal. This will be Prime Minister’s second bilateral engagement with the Nepalese leadership. External Affairs Ministry spokesman, Syed Akbarudin said, during the free time the leaders will have bilateral interactions. He said India’s intention is to hold as many bilateral interactions as possible with other SAARC members.
