Nitish Kumar to take oath on Sunday
Nitish Kumar will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Bihar on Sunday. Earlier, Mr. Kumar called on the Governor Kesarinath Tripathy this afternoon regarding formation of the new government in the State.
Kumar will be administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Governor at 5 pm on Sunday. A few of his party legislators would also be sworn in as his ministerial colleagues.
The Governor has asked Nitish Kumar to prove the majority of his government on the floor of the Assembly before the 16th of March. Sources in JD(U) do not rule out the possibility of a Deputy Chief Minister in the new Cabinet, given the fact that the JD(U) requires the support of the RJD, Congress and CPI MLAs in the State Assembly.
Earlier, the Governor accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi. Mr. Manjhi tendered his resignation without facing the trust vote in the state assembly today. Talking to reporters after submitting his resignation letter to Governor, Mr. Manjhi alleged that he had taken the decision in protest against the unconstitutional behaviour of the Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary and threat to the legislators backing him.
