Punjab congress chief Pratap Singh Bajwa is facing criticism for allegedly having relations with a gangster named as Parampal Singh alias Pala Brar of Paras gang.Pala Brar was in news recently for planning the kidnapping of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.
Parampal alias Pala Brar of Paras gang was arrested recently by the Faridkot police which had foiled a bid to kidnap the rapper. The police is investigating Bajwa’s alleged links with the gang.
The gangster is believed to have told the Faridkot police that Bajwa had called him and other henchmen to AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi’s Chandigarh meeting to ward off ‘evil congressmen’ away from the meeting.
Akali Dal asks Bajwa to Explain his position
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Thursday Partap Bajwa to come clean and tell the people why he was enmeshed in serious criminal activities one after the other instead of hiding behind the excuse of an “ Akali smear campaign”.
Senior SAD leaders including Ministers Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema besides party spokesman Maheshinder Singh Grewal said instead of crying wolf, Bajwa should explain why he was in continuous touch, for minutes together, with the alleged son of a neighbor who was involved in criminal activities.
“What could have been the topic of discussion between an arms racketeer and the president of a State political party? It could obviously not be politics”, the leaders said adding it had already been revealed that the arms racketeer – Gurtej Pannu had hired the services of the infamous Paras gang at Bajwa’s instance to keep the latter’s opponents away from Congress president Rahul Gandhi during his recent visit to the city.
The SAD leaders said it was interesting that Bajwa had not tried to deny receiving phone calls from Pannu but had made it seem as if they were casual calls. “This is furthest from the truth. The phone calls were made at crucial times when the members of the Paras gang were hired for the assignment or were being taken to a safe house or being brought to Chandigarh. The very fact that Bajwa kept a tab on the movements of the gang members proves that he not only hired the gang to terrorize his political opponents but also that he regularly hobnobs with criminals”, the leaders said.
Maheshinder Grewal meanwhile asked Bajwa not to try to brow beat security officials by threatening them with dire consequences, saying the entire issue had come to light following a arms seizure haul during the course of which a criminal Pala Brar had disclosed that he and his gang members had also been hired for an assignment by the PCC president.
Grewal said instead of coming clean on his links with goons Bajwa was accusing the Akalis of launching a smear campaign against him.
Asking Bajwa not to make excuses after being exposed, the Akali leaders said the PCC president to instead explain to the people why he alone was involved in one criminal activity after another. “Why has your name alone become synonymous with corruption and criminal activities?” they asked.
Pratap Singh Bajwa denies allegations
Reacting to the allegations, Congress president Pratap Singh Bajwa denied having any relations with the gangsters and said the Akali Dal government is targeting political opponents by leveling false and unsubstantiated allegations.
“Punjab police has become a private militia of Akalis and has no credibility. Sukhbir Badal is is targeting his political opponents and is using dirty politics to malign them.I have nothing to do with the people named above. This is a malicious propaganda of Akali Dal against me,” Pratap Singh Bajwa said.
