Opponents running media trial : Virbhadra

Virbhadra Singh resignsVirbhadra Singh, Chief Minister has said that he and his family members are being subjected to a malicious media trial by false and baseless stories about their Income Tax matter in certain sections of the press.

He said that it appeared that some vested interests and political opponents were running biased personal investigations into the matters of his family and were behaving like reckless complainants, prosecutors and judges unto themselves.

“It was surprising that some people were claiming access to the ongoing internal proceedings and classified documents of the Income Tax Department, which if true is against norms of secrecy and governance,” Virbhadra Singh said.

He said that the matter pertaining to their Income Tax returns were sub-judice and were being looked into by the Income Tax authorities. It appears that these people have no faith in the judiciary and the process of law.

“They should  have the patience to wait for the outcome of the investigations being conducted by the central agencies.They should have faith in the functioning of these agencies and the process of law. He said that unnecessary hype was being created in the media by suppressing, fabricating and distorting facts to malign his image and influence the ongoing proceedings in the matter,” Virbhadra Singh said.

Virbhadra Singh said news reports that have appeared were biased, politically motivated and with an ulterior objective of spreading misinformation and misleading the people at large. He said that malicious propaganda has been launched against him with a malafide intention of defaming him.

Virbhadra Singh said that everybody was aware that false and fabricated cases were made against him in the past also and lot of adverse publicity was made against him but every time he had come out clean from the Hon’ble Courts. He said that he has been in public life for the last 53 years and tarnishing his impeccable image on the basis of nebulous material which was at an investigation stage was highly objectionable. He underlined the need to ensure that selective leakages during pending investigations are avoided as they can cause irreparable damage to one’s reputation and image.

He said that unlike his detractors, he has full faith in the Rule of Law and was always ready and willing to subject himself to the process of law. He said that the false and fabricated cases made against him and his family members would not stand and he would come out clean as before. He said that malicious mud-slinging against him would not stick as he has done no wrong.
