Rail budget is disappointing : Virbhadra

virbhadra_singhHimachal Pradesh chief minister, Virbhadra Singh on Thursday said the Rail Budget is disappointing for the people of Himachal Pradesh who have been ignored by the Union Government.

Singh termed the Union railway budget 2015-16 as ‘average’ which was full of hollow ideas and promises without any substance.

In his reaction to the railway budget presented in the Lok Sabha today, Virbhadra Singh said that it was unfortunate that despite the state government’s repeated requests for extension of rail lines in the state especially Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri line till Leh which was very important from strategic point of view no heed was paid to the requests.

“The government of India has again completely ignored the proposals of the state for extension of rail lines and conversion of existing rail tracks into broad gauge,” Virbhadra Singh said.

The chief minister said that not even a single announcement has been made about new trains. The common man of the country was expecting reduction in rail fare and as far as modernization of the railways was concerned, no clear indication had been made how resources would be generated for the same.

“In last rail budget presented by the UPA government, few surveys for new lines/extension were announced but they also failed to find mention in recent budget. After formation of NDA government at the centre, the state BJP leaders had been boasting of improvement in rail infrastructure in the state but their claims had also fallen flat,” Virbhadra Singh said.

The senior Congress leader said that it was the state BJP which was raising hue and cry that they had taken up the matter  with the union government and Himachal was sure to get place in rail budget and now the truth was that their false claims had to the fore.
