Rs 57 crore tax penalty slapped on Singhvi
Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi is facing penalty for alleged tax default. The Income Tax Settlement Commission (ITSC) has added Rs 92 crore to the professional income of Singhvi over a period of three years and imposed penalty of around Rs 57 crore on him.
BJP today said penalty against Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi by the Income Tax Settlement Commission in a tax evasion case is a classic example of how black money is being generated in the country.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Sambit Patra said the Congress should come out clean on the issue and disown Singhvi.
He said the Commission exposed the bogus payments made by Singhvi and also found that several cheque payments by him were found not verifiable. Patra alleged that many tall Congress leaders have stashed black money not only abroad but also at home.
