Sant Rampal facing sedition charge
Having failed to arrest Sant Rampal, the Haryana police on Wednesday slapped a series of criminal cases against the controversial Sant Rampal.
The cases have been registered under various sections of Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act including waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India (Sections 121 ),Sedition, conspiring to commit certain offences against the state (121-A), Collecting arms ( 122).
Rampal is also facing case for concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war (under Sections 123), attempt to murder ,assault rioting and treason.
Police said more cases will be registered after he is arrested.Cases have also been arrested against Rampal’s supporters including his brother Purushotam Dass who was arrested while fleeing the Ashram.
(Rampal and his supporters are facing cases under IPC section 107,147,148,149,186,188,120-121,121A,122,123,224,225,307,332,342,353,436 ,Section 25,54,59 of the Arms Act at police station Ambala .
Those facing cases also include Rampal, Ram Kumar, Raj Kumar, Mahendar, Purushotam, Dharmabir Dhanda, Tarun Kumar, resident of Satlok Ahsram, Barwala,Deep Das, resident of Gatiwala, Baljit Singh, resident of Lakshmi Vihar, Barwala, Sidharath, resident of Sector 15, Ravinder, resident of Sulana, Jitender of Nayabass and other unidentified persons.
Ruling out any negotiations with accused Ram Pal, the Haryana Director General of Police (DGP),the DGP has asked him to surrender.
“I advise the accused Rampal to surrender. He is facing serious criminal cases,” S N Vashisth said in a press conference in Chandigarh.
The Haryana police chief said that the police have rounded up about 250 people, including those 20 who were involved in the incident and were trying making good their escape posing as followers, Vashisht said.
“Accused Rampal is believed to be hiding some where inside the Ashram. He will be arrested and produced before the high court. The police are committed to ensuring strict compliance of the law, and anybody trying to create any hurdle will have to face action, the DGP asserted,” Vashisth said.
The DGP said that the strategy of the police had so far been successful and more than 10,000 followers, including women, children, and aged persons, were safely taken out of the Ashram last night. Still, about 5,000 followers are camping inside, and, they too,would be taken out safely. The DGP also said that the operation will continue till Rampal is arrested.
“After 10 pm yesterday, as many as 2,000 followers were taken out of the Ashram in the first phase. They were taken to the bus stand and the railway station in 35 buses Haryana Roadways buses. Most of the followers hailed from UP, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The operation would continue until all the people are safely taken out of the Ahsram, and Rampal is arrested,” Vashisth said.
In reply to a question, Vashisth said that neither the police had entered the Ashram, nor fired a single gun shot.
Asked if the police were lax in dealing with the matter, Vashisht denied the charge, saying that when about 10,000 to 15,000 people were inside the Ashram, any type of attack by the police would have resulted in loss of lives of innocent people.
