The Maharashtra government honoured a woman who sold her ‘mangalsutra’ to build a toilet. State’s Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde honoured Sangita Awhale in her Mumbai office. Awhale who belongs to Saikheda village in Washim district said that toilet is a basic necessity and hence she decided to sell all her ornaments to build a toilet.
Speaking to reporters, Pankaja Munde said that the government will try to build maximum number of toilets to ensure that women don’t have to face any inconvenience on this count.
The minister lauded Sangita’s initiative and presented her with a new ‘mangalsutra’, as a token of appreciation for taking forward the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create awareness about the need for toilets.
