Chhattisgarh government on Thursday ordered a judicial probe into the sterilization tragedy that claimed lives of 15 women and left more than 100 women hospitalised.
Chief Minister Raman Singh said that the government would not spare manufacturer, distributor or even doctors found responsible for the incident.
Doctor R.K. Gupta who conducted the sterilization surgeries at Pendari health camp, was taken into custody. State government has terminated Dr. Gupta and Chief Medical Officer of Bilaspur district Dr. R.K. Bhange with immediate effect. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh government has banned the sale of six drugs from the medical stores of the state which were used during the sterilization surgeries in Pendari health camp.
The samples of these drugs are being sent to the Central Drugs Testing Laboratory, Kolkata. The death toll in sterilization tragedies rose to 15 with two more women succumbed to illness caused due to botched surgeries. More than 100 women are undergoing treatment in four different hospitals of Bilaspur.
Condition of fifteen women was reported to be serious. These camps were organized in Pendari and Gourella village of Bilaspur district as a part of family planning programme.
