New Delhi: Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi Saturday said he is ready to resign provided his Trinamool Congress party conveys it to him properly.

“I will abide by the party’s decision. If I wanted to stay in my chair, I could have. I don’t want to be humiliated like this. I have done my bit. Let them convey it to me properly. I will resign in a day or two,” Trivedi told CNN-IBN news channel.

Trivedi’s decision to hike passenger fares in the rail budget angered Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee and she has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to sack Trivedi.

Talking to reporters later, Trivedi said: “Neither has Mamta-ji asked for my resignation nor has the prime minister asked for my resignation who is the captain of the team.”

“And I personally don’t understand what is happening. But till the time the matter is absolutely clear, I suggested that I do not want to take any verbal thing because parliament has more sanctity than someone’s telephone,” he said.

“So I have suggested that let Mamta-ji give me a letter so that there is no confusion,” he added.

“Prime minister has not even suggested to me at all (to resign) so I must carry on my constitutional duty. I don’t want to be seen to be running away from the budget which I have presented,” he told reporters.

“The whole country has appreciated the budget and parliamentarians cutting across the party line have appreciated the budget,” he said.

“I am there, I will carry my duty to the best of my ability and whatever is required for the railways,” Trivedi added.
